In this particular project, the customer required a customized solution for weighing and labeling a variety of cheeses that come in both triangular and semicircular shapes. Adding to the challenge was the need for extra-long labels, which demanded high precision to ensure optimal label placement — especially since triangular cheeses exit the packaging machine tip-first in the direction of travel
Our tailored solution begins with aligning the cheeses using adjustable side guides. Due to the irregular infeed, a start/stop separation system is used to space out the products before they reach a rotating unit, which turns each cheese 180 degrees to ensure consistent orientation for labeling
Each cheese is then individually weighed, with the weight data immediately sent to the label printer. Products that fall outside the defined weight tolerance are automatically diverted to a reject bin using a pneumatic pusher — ensuring only conforming items are labeled and passed on
Approved products receive their labels via a precision wipe-on applicator, which can be finely adjusted in both rotation angle and application pressure. For secure adhesion, two air nozzles press the label onto the cheese — particularly important for longer labels that wrap over the back edge
In batches requiring bottom labeling, a vacuum belt applicator applies labels to the underside of the cheese before it rejoins the main production line
This intelligent and flexible system is capable of processing up to 55 products per minute, even with long labels and mixed product shapes — making it ideal for fresh food producers with diverse product lines and demanding quality standards
